 First Eight OEM Platforms Featuring Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processors Now Available
Deliveringnew levels in performance scalability, virtualization performance andenergy efficiency, AMD announced customers can get the Quad-Core AMDOpteron processor today in systems from HP as well as other systemproviders. The recently-launched HP ProLiant G5 platforms represent thefirst of many systems that are expected to be available in the comingweeks from global OEMs and system builders based on the Quad-Core AMDOpteron processor.
"HP has experienced unparalleled success over the past four years inbringing AMD Opteron processor-based platforms to commercial customersof all sizes," said Randy Allen, corporate vice president and generalmanager, Server and Workstation Division, AMD. "HP continues to respondto customers who see the benefit in our unique Direct ConnectArchitecture with some of the industry's most innovative designs. Theselatest ProLiant servers are a major leap forward and take advantage ofthe increased performance, energy efficiency and sophisticatedvirtualization and power management enabled by the Quad-Core AMDOpteron processor."

HP and AMD set New Performance Records
The new systems include the HP ProLiant DL385 G5 which set a newperformance record for 2-socket, x86-based SPECfp_rate20061. The HPProLiant DL585 G5 set a new performance record for 4-socket, x86-basedsystems in TPC-C Price/tpmC2. Also, the HP ProLiant BL685c G5 serverset a new record for SPECfp_rate20063 performance in four-processorconfigurations.
